BLOOMINGTON -- The U.S. Cellular Coliseum posted a $9,674 loss for August.

The financial report, released by the city of Bloomington on Friday, is for the month prior to the sold-out Kenny Chesney concert.

In the report, Coliseum managers also said they have saved about $150,000 in utility costs compared to the same time last year.

"Our staff has implemented a monitoring system on all building utilities and the efforts are paying off so far this summer," said Jim Appio, associate general manager at the Coliseum.

The August report shows an attendance of 2,642 for the month. The only show "The Wiggles Go Bananas Live!" drew a crowd of 2,117. The additional attendance included a tryout for the Illinois State University hockey team and the pep rally for the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" television show.

The year-to-date operating deficit is $188,043, according to the report.

The 7,500-seat arena, which opened in April 2006, ended its third fiscal year this spring with an operating loss of about $440,000.
