FARMER CITY - The Farmer City Council has postponed setting a public hearing date on a potential fairground/South Park land swap.

The council agreed to a public hearing only if the fair association agrees to changes the council added during a nonpublic meeting.

The hearing wouldn't be held until at least Nov. 16.

If the association doesn't accept the changes, Councilwoman Michelle Monaghan said the matter would be renegotiated.

The council and fair association have been negotiating for several years. Under the existing arrangement, the city owns the fairground property and leases it to the fair association. The association owns South Park and leases it to the city.

The fairground lease expires Nov. 30, 2011. The lease at South Park is good through June 30, 2010.

The council previously voted down a 20-year option.
