BLOOMINGTON -- A McLean County Board member pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct Tuesday in court as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Robert Nuckolls, 47, of Bloomington was fined $500 and given 12 months of conditional discharge. The charge is a Class C misdemeanor.

As part of the agreement, special prosecutor Lorinda Lamken dropped two counts of violating an order of protection, a Class A misdemeanor. The charges related to an August 2008 incident in which Nuckolls was found within 500 feet of Megan Nelson's home on Christopher Way.

Nuckolls, Nelson and her mother, Margaret Nelson, agreed to orders of protection in a civil suit that was resolved in July 2008.

Megan Nelson is an employee of the county clerk's office, and Margaret Nelson works at Illinois State University. Margaret Nelson and Nuckolls worked in the same office at ISU before Nuckolls was transferred to ISU's Office of Environmental Health and Safety.

Nuckoll's also was convicted in 2006 in a battery case involving his wife. Previously he received court supervision for that Class A misdemeanor.

By pleading guilty to disorderly conduct Tuesday, the court supervision was revoked for the 2006 case. That means the 2006 case now will appear on his record as a conviction.

Convictions in the misdemeanor cases are not enough to remove Nuckolls from his County Board seat. Previously, a county civil attorney said only County Board members convicted of a felony must resign their seats.
