NORMAL -- Four students, a bus driver and a monitor were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after a Unit 5 school bus was rear-ended on Normal's west side Wednesday.
The westbound, 29-passenger bus was stopped on College Avenue at White Oak Road when it was struck by a car about 3:30 p.m., police said at the scene.
All six of the bus occupants were taken to hospital about 4 p.m., but no one had life-threatening injuries, emergency personnel at the scene said.
One student and a woman were put in cervical collars at the scene
"I was told they were all precautionary," said Superintendent Gary Niehaus.
The students were heading home from the early childhood education program at Oakdale Elementary School at 601 south Adelaide St., Normal, he said.
"We're going through the normal procedures and cooperating with police," Niehaus said.
The driver of the car refused medical treatment.
