CLINTON - The Clinton Power Station was taken off line at 5:37 a.m. Thursday after the shutdown of one of two pump systems circulating water through the nuclear plant's reactor.
In a statement, the station owners, Exelon Nuclear, said equipment "responded as expected" when the fault occurred. "There was no risk to the public and no injuries associated with the shutdown."
Repair crews have been assessing what caused the pump to fail. Exelon said the system will come back on line as soon as the fault is corrected but offered no timetable.
The plant was shut down earlier this month for a valve repair.
