PEORIA - The death of a man hit be a car at an Independence Day event in Roanoke was ruled an accident Thursday at a Peoria County coroner's inquest.

Steven Hodel, 60, of Roanoke died at 10:45 p.m. July 3 at Peoria's OSF Saint Francis Medical Center emergency room. He suffered a crushed chest and pelvis.

Police say he was injured when a woman accidentally drove into a group of people seated in chairs at Broad and State streets about 9:30 p.m.

"It was just an unfortunate accident," Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said. "There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol."

Two other people, including Hodel' wife, were injured in the accident, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries
