Marine Corps event to mark 234th year

BLOOMINGTON - The 234th Marine Corps Birthday Ball will be 5 to 10:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Challenger Learning Center, in the old airport terminal building.

The event will include a social hour, dinner, guest speaker, cake-cutting, music and dancing. Tickets are $25 each and formal wear is required. For more information, phone 309-660-1073 or 309-828-1378.

Bloomington plans to collect leaves

BLOOMINGTON - Bloomington will begin picking up leaves today.

Leaves should be raked to the back of the curb on the grass; to the road shoulder; or at the edge or near your driveway. No bagged leaves are permitted. Piles should be no higher than three feet and leaves should not be raked into the street.

Brush should be piled separately.

Road work

BLOOMINGTON - Fort Jesse Road between Towanda Avenue and Landmark Drive will be closed to through traffic beginning at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday for water main repairs. The street will be reopened to one lane in each direction Tuesday night.
