CLINTON -- DeWitt County Circuit Judge Garry Bryan will seek the Republican nomination to that post in the Feb. 2 primary election.

Bryan was recommended for last year's appointment by Supreme Court Justice Rita Garman. He replaced Judge Stephen H. Peters, who retired.

Only DeWitt County residents will vote on filling the post. The 6th Judicial Circuit includes Champaign, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie and Piatt counties.

A county resident since 1990, Bryan moved to Clinton after he joined in law practice with Ray Moss in 1988.

After graduating magna cum laude from Lewis University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in English, Bryan earned his law degree from The John Marshall Law School in 1980. He began as an appellate prosecutor in Springfield, then moved to Decatur to clerk for the late Appellate Justice A.G. Webber III.

Bryan and his wife, Joyce, have two adult sons.
