FLANAGAN -- Several antique tractors and other equipment were damaged during a fire in Flanagan early Tuesday evening, and the cause is still under investigation.

John Zimmerman, chief of the Flanagan-Graymont Fire Protection District, said firefighters were called to 402 E. Lincoln St. around 4:25 p.m. Tuesday. Zimmerman said a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the building, which was formerly the International Harvest Dealership but was converted to a storage facility several years ago.

No one was injured during the fire. Zimmerman said that the fire was mainly in the attic area and then spread to a nearby Quonset hut.

Several antique tractors were being stored there at the time, and Zimmerman said they sustained heat damage and possibly more damage after a couple of ceiling rafters fell.

"There were probably 10 tractors all together if not more, and there were antique wagon wheels and numerous other items," Zimmerman said. "A lot of the heat and fire was above them, so when some of the ceiling rafters fell down there was some heat and fire damage to them."

No cause has been determined, and Zimmerman said the fire is currently under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.

Myles Harston, owner of the property, would not say if the property was insured. However, he said that the current plan was to rebuild the property in areas that sustained the most damage. He also that he does not believe the fire to be suspicious.

"It's really unfortunate, but I don't think it was arson or anything like that," Harston said. "I think it was just accidental."

Zimmerman would not release the name of the owner of the tractors. Another person had property stored around the facility, but was able to get it out before any damage.

Along with Flanagan-Graymont, fire departments from Pontiac, Gridley, Cornell and Long Point responded to the scene. Firemen left the area around 6 p.m., Zimmerman said.
