SPRINGFIELD -- Of the three Republicans vying for a shot to run against Democratic U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson in Illinois' 11th Congressional District, Adam Kinzinger has the most campaign cash by a wide margin.
Federal elections records show the Bloomington man raised about $113,000 between July 1 and Sept. 30. He's running against Henry Meers of Frankfurt and David McAloon of Bourbonnais.
McAloon raised $620 over the same time period, and Meers didn't file a report.
"We're excited about the numbers," said Kinzinger, an Illinois Air National Guard reservist and former McLean County Board member.
Halvorson, a first-term Democrat from Crete, exceeded Kinzinger's totals, but doesn't yet have a primary opponent. She raised about $290,000 in the last three months and has $706,000 on hand.
Kinzinger has about $151,000 in his account.
A Kinzinger spokesman didn't return a request for comment.
The 11th District stretches from the Bloomington-Normal area to Chicago's south suburbs.
Federal candidates were required to file campaign reports this week unless they hadn't raised enough money to qualify.
In another Central Illinois race, Republican U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock of Peoria reported having raised about $160,000 in the last three months, but spending left him with a net total of $106,000. His opponent, little-known Democrat Carl Ray of Washington, did not file.
Schock is in the middle of his first term representing the 18th Congressional District, which includes parts of Tazewell and Woodford counties.
In the 15th Congressional District, Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson of Urbana pulled in about $26,000 in the last three months. He has $135,000 in the bank.
Dr. David Gill, a Bloomington physician, announced his Democratic candidacy for the 15th just this week. He's run against Johnson twice before.
Candidates can begin making their bids official Oct. 26.
