BLOOMINGTON — The first-ever National Fire Dog Monument makes two stops in Central Illinois this weekend on a 2000-mile tour honoring America’s firefighters, law enforcement officials and arson dogs.
The 7-foot-tall statue will be on display from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Illinois State Capitol, 401 S. 2nd St., Springfield.
On Sunday, the statue will on display from 9 a.m. to noon at State Farm Insurance Cos.’ corporate headquarters in Bloomington. State Farm is sponsoring the national tour.
Sadie, a certified arson dog and a 2011 American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards winner, will be at both stops.
The monument is a bronze sculpture designed to serve as a lasting monument to the service and dedication that arson dogs contribute to communities. Depicting a firefighter looking down at his canine partner, it was sculpted by 22-year-old Colorado firefighter Austin Weishel and is permanently based in Washington, D.C.
