NORMAL — A 33-year-old Bloomington man found dead Wednesday in Sugar Creek in Normal apparently drowned, McLean County Coroner Kathy Davis said late Thursday afternoon.

She identified him as Marcus D. Bivens of Bloomington.

"There was no assault, strangulation, infection, recent significant trauma, or tumor," said Davis, citing preliminary autopsy findings. "Toxicology results are pending."

Police were notified at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday that the body of a man was discovered near a bridge along Constitution Trail near the 300 block of South Veterans Parkway, between College Avenue and General Electric Road.

Coroner's office pronounced the man dead at 4:50 p.m. at the scene.

The circumstances of Bivens' death remain under investigation by the Normal Police Department and the coroner’s office.

“We are still investigating and working with the coroner’s office, but have nothing new to release yet,” Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner said before Davis' statement.
