CLINTON — Operators removed Clinton Power Station from service at 5:24 p.m. Wednesday after discovering elevated water levels in the containment sump, which could be indicative of a small pipe or valve leak inside the containment building, officials for Exelon Generation said.

While the unit is offline, other maintenance activities will be performed, officials said.

Clinton Power Station is approximately 6 miles east of Clinton. The plant produces 1,078 megawatts at full power — enough electricity to power about 1 million typical homes.
