BLOOMINGTON — An accident that killed a Normal Community West High School student remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police more than two months after she died.
High school senior Olivia "Livi" Sonetz, 17, of Bloomington died March 8 of injuries she suffered in the two-vehicle crash that occurred two days earlier at Mitsubishi Motorway and Raab Road.
McLean County State's Attorney Jason Chambers said Wednesday that the crash is still under investigation.
"State police are working on it and have been communicating with the state's attorney's office on their progress," said Chambers.
State police District 6 in Pontiac confirmed the accident reconstruction investigation is ongoing.
After the accident, police said the driver of the second vehicle, Mitchel Mohr, 23, entered the intersection illegally. Tickets issued to Mohr for disobeying a stoplight, failure to reduce speed, speeding and failure to wear a seat belt have not been filed in McLean County Circuit Court.
In some cases, police wait until an investigation is concluded before filing tickets.
According to police, Mohr's 2008 GMC pickup truck was southbound on Mitsubishi Motorway. Sonetz, who was driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring, was driving west on Raab Road and stopped at a stoplight. State police said the two vehicles collided after the light turned green and Sonetz entered the intersection.
