BLOOMINGTON - A drunken driver was involved in two accidents in one night, McLean County prosecutors said.
A 20-year-old El Paso man was driving a vehicle with two male friends when he struck a tree, a statement by prosecutors said. One of the companions was injured, and at his request, the driver was transporting the injured friend to a hospital when he was involved in a second accident with another vehicle at Regency and Washington streets, the statement said. The driver then fled on foot.
When Bloomington police officers arrived they found the driver's injured friends, one unconscious on the ground and the other standing and conscious but with a laceration on his forehead, the statement said. Both injured parties were transported to a hospital.
The driver later showed up at the hospital and told police officers he was the driver in both accidents and that he had fled on foot after his two companions instructed him to do so, the statement said. He also admitted to drinking prior to driving and that his driver's license had been revoked, the statement said.
Police arrested the man Saturday morning. He faced charges of driving under the influence, driving while license revoked and leaving the scene of an accident. He posted $300 and was released.
As a condition of his bond, he has been ordered not to consume alcohol.
