LINCOLN -- As Logan County authorities continue the search for a suspect in this week's homicides in Beason, Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols is encouraging area residents to lock their homes at night and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Despite that, a random survey of local locksmiths and hardware stores Wednesday found no rush of homeowners looking for extra security in the form of locks or home security devices.
"We haven't seen anything out of the ordinary," said Scott Mack, a manager at Logan County Hardware and Lincoln's only locksmith.
The Lincoln Wal-Mart did not see a spike in home security sales either, said assistant manager Mark Ahlrich.
"I think it's been pretty normal with no major change one way or the other," Ahlrich said.
At a news conference Tuesday, Nichols discounted the possibility of a murder-suicide and said investigators are looking into all possibilities.
"I don't think we've seen any additional calls either," said John Heap, owner of Gibson's Ace Hardware in Clinton. "I think something like this bothers the elderly a little bit more because many just aren't used to locking their doors. Obviously when something like this happens, though, it makes everyone think."
