BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington man who was the subject of a police search after taking his infant daughter on Wednesday has been arrested on preliminary charges of manufacture and delivery of drugs.

Formal charges are pending against Darien Davis, 28, who listed an address in the 900 block of West Jefferson Street.

Police released a statement on Wednesday, asking for the public’s help in locating Davis, who was being sought after police said he took his 2-week-old baby from the child’s mother without permission.

Police were called to the 2200 block of Case Street around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police said Davis took the child and indicated he was going to leave the state. Police said he did not possess any child-care supplies or food for the child.

Police released a picture of Davis and the vehicle he was driving.

Later, police said Davis returned the baby to the police station. He was not charged with any crime in connection with the incident, but he was arrested at 1:40 p.m. for manufacture and delivery of drugs. Details of the charges were not immediately available.

Formal charges are pending, police said.
