BLOOMINGTON — A 19-year-old Clinton man has been sentenced to life in prison for the sexual assault of three children.

Brett Wilson was convicted by a McLean County jury in January of predatory criminal sexual assault of three children who were under the age of 10. The incidents were reported to authorities in January 2012.

Wilson, who was sentenced on Friday, did not make a statement at the hearing.

Judge Scott Drazewski handed down the mandatory life sentence, which is required under state law when the conviction on predatory criminal sexual assault charges involves more than one victim.

Wilson denied the accusations, leveled by the children with whom he was acquainted. At the trial, defense lawyer Ron Lewis argued that adults close to the children manipulated the youngsters into claiming the assaults took place.

Assistant State’s Attorney Adam Ghrist said “it is a sad day when a 19-year-old is sentenced to life in prison. However, it is important to remember the life sentences that his three victims will be subjected to as they learn to deal with the effects of abuse.”
