BLOOMINGTON — A man and woman from Chicago have been arrested and charged after officers found counterfeit money in their vehicle.
On Saturday, the Bloomington Police Department received counterfeit money complaints from at least five retail stores in east Bloomington, and described a potential suspect vehicle, police said Wednesday.
Later, officers located a vehicle near the intersection of Eastland Drive and Prospect Road matching the description and conducted a search of the vehicle.
Police said the vehicle contained items matching those purchased with counterfeit money, as well as several counterfeit $100 bills.
Kayonna D. Howard and Denokey K. Midderhoff, both 18, were arrested and transported to the McLean County jail. A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested on suspicion of theft by deception and was later released.
Howard was charged with three counts of burglary, two counts of obstruction of justice and three counts of theft by deception. Midderhoff was charged with obstructing justice and driving on a suspended license.
Both Midderhoff and Howard must post $935 to be released; a bond reduction hearing is set for Friday for both. Arraignments are scheduled for May 25.
