PEORIA — A Peoria man was arrested early Saturday after trying to ram a stolen vehicle into the main terminal at Peoria's airport.
The man has been hospitalized at a Peoria hospital, according to a statement issued by Peoria International Airport. Authorities believe the incident was isolated.
After trying to ram the building about 3 a.m., the man left the car and went inside, breaking into a secured area, the airport statement said. That move alerted airport operations and the Peoria County Sheriff’s deputy on duty at the airport.
The man spent seven minutes in the secured area before leaving and then trying to break into a deputy’s vehicle parked out front. He was apprehended by several deputies in the airport’s parking lot, the statement said.
Peoria City Police bomb squad and TSA officials closed the airport during a sweep of the premises and grounds and found nothing suspicious. The airport reopened about 7 a.m.
