BLOOMINGTON - The end of the petition filing period for the Feb. 2 primary election on Monday has left races for several countywide offices in its wake.

McLean County

There will be a four-way race for county clerk. Kathy Michael, incumbent Peggy Ann Milton, Michael McFarland and Geoffrey Tompkins, all Republicans, are seeking election as county clerk.

While newly appointed county Auditor Michelle Anderson, a Republican, faces no primary opposition, she apparently will face Benjamin Pettie, a member of the Green party, in the fall.

Susan Schafer, who spearheaded opposition to a proposed gravel pit near Fox Creek Elementary School, filed a nominating petition as a Republican for a District 9 County Board seat held by incumbent Cathy Ahart, a Democrat, who is seeking re-election.

Scott Black, a Democrat, is seeking election to the District 8 County Board seat currently held by Tari Renner. Renner said recently he was not seeking re-election but plans to try once again for the Bloomington mayor's post, possibly in spring 2013.

Other County Board incumbents seeking re-election are: Don Cavallini, District 1; Matt Sorensen, District 2; George Wendt, District 3; Duane Moss, District 4; William T. Caisley, District 5; John McIntyre, District 6; Bette Rackauskas, District 7; and Benjamin Owens, District 10.

Logan County

In Logan County, newcomers Chuck Conzo and Vicki Dugan filed for the Republican nomination to succeed retiring county Treasurer Mary Ellen Bruns. Recently appointed Circuit Clerk Suzann Maxheimer will face a challenge from Mary Kelley in the GOP primary for the remainder of the term that will expire in 2012.

Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols and County Clerk Sally Litterly apparently will be unchallenged as they seek re-election as Republicans. No Democrats filed for those offices.

Candidates for County Board are: incumbent Charles Ruben, District 1; incumbent Robert Farmer, District 2; newcomer Michael Morris, District 3; newcomer M.E. Gene Rohlfs, District 4; newcomer Arthur "Andy" E. Anderson III and newcomer James Griffin, District 5; and incumbent Kevin Bateman, District 6. All are Republicans except Morris, who is a Democrat.

DeWitt County

There are the same number of candidates for DeWitt County Sheriff - three - as there were after the first day of filing a week ago, but the number running for county board seats increased.

Running to succeed retiring Sheriff Roger Massey are former Sheriff Tom Farris and current Deputy Jered Shofner, both Republicans, and former Sheriff's Deputy Todd Reeves, a Democrat.

Incumbent Treasurer Christy Long, a Republican, was the lone candidate to file for that office, while Dana Smith, also a Republican, was the only one to file for the open County Clerk seat.

Candidates for County Board are: Republican challengers Terry Ferguson and Leon Owens, incumbent Democrat Mike Bray and Democratic challenger Matthew J. Varble, District A; Republican incumbent Laura G. Enger, District B; incumbents Sherrie Brown and Welby D. Cyrulik and challenger Richard Roth, all Republicans, and Democratic challenger Leah 'Camille' A. Redman, District C; newcomers Democrat Rita "Sue" May and Republican Jered Hooker, District D.
