NORMAL — It will be at least two weeks before two candidates know whether they have won a six-year term on the Normal Public Library board.

Terry Lindberg and Erik Bush each received 1,329 votes, according to the unofficial count completed Tuesday night.

Ironically, neither Bush nor his wife voted, he said Wednesday. He said he inadvertently failed to update his voter registration, and his wife was out of town on an errand.

Two seats were open. Dawn Wilson was the top vote-getter with 2,266 votes in the unofficial tally.

McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael said state statute requires her to wait two weeks before certifying election results. During that time, provisional ballots will be considered and the office may receive more absentee ballots, which can be counted if they meet the mailing deadline.

If a tie remains, Michael said a coin toss would determine the winner.

Lindberg and Bush each earned nearly twice the number of votes of incumbent Karl Sila, who has served on the board since 2007. Sila was ousted from the board with 831 votes.
