100 years ago

July 15, 1909: Two more elegant homes are slated for construction on East Washington Street. Attorney Sain Welty plans a colonial style home on one acre. Meanwhile Mr. and Mrs. Charles Van Pelt are building a new home in the Kreitzer addition. George Miller is the architect.

75 years ago

July 15, 1934: Workers preparing a studio at IWU's Old North Hall displaced a swarm of bees that had relocated there. After clearing out the bees (very carefully) they took home more than three dishpans of honey. The workers were Emmerson Russell, F.A. Sayers, and R.J. Ernst.

50 years ago

July 15, 1959: Lt. James Daley, 64, will be acting Bloomington Police Chief while City Manager Moody seeks a permanent chief. Also, Robert "Lefty" Schaefer was promoted to sergeant, replacing retiring Sergeant Frank Theis. Schaefer and Daley each have 26 years on the force.

25 years ago

July 15, 1984: The Internal Revenue Service chose Bloomington-Normal over eleven other cities in Illinois and Indiana for the site of its tax forms distribution center. The actual location in town has not been decided. Construction should begin next spring.
