Nov. 1, 1909: The BHS football team lost 12-0 at Lovington. The game ended in a big fist fight, and these teams are unlikely to meet again. Also, Normal High won a 1-0 forfeit from Peoria. Someone recognized the Peoria quarterback was really a Bradley University player.
75 years ago
Nov. 1, 1934: Bloomington threw its annual Halloween street party last night in the 500 block of North East Street. The street was closed from Market to Mulberry, and the municipal band played for dancers in Halloween costumes.
50 years ago
Nov. 1, 1959: The old Washington School at Leroy will be sold next week. Closed since 1956, it was once the high school before becoming a grade school. The 1892 building hasn't been used since the new grade school was built.
25 years ago
Nov. 1, 1984: The neighborhood watch program in Lexington got off the ground with placement of signs at Elm and Chestnut Streets. Police Chief William Joyce and Pat Powell of the Lexington Baptist Women were shown putting up the signs.
