100 years ago
Oct. 3, 1909: The new opera house on East Market Street will look a lot like the old Grand that burned down this past spring. When the new building is finished on the same site, some improvements to the old Grand's design will be apparent.
75 years ago
Oct. 3, 1934: The World Series is on, with the St. Louis Cardinals winning game one from the Detroit Tigers 8-3. Fans gathered to follow the action outside the Pantagraph building by watching a sidewalk play board augmented by a radio broadcast.
50 years ago
Oct. 3, 1959: More of the new 1960 model cars are rolling into town. The Oldsmobiles will be at Barker's, 310 North Lee Street. Galloway Buick at 216 East Grove Street will have the new Buicks in its showroom Thursday.
25 years ago
Oct. 3, 1984: It appears a savings of $183,000 will result in the first year of consolidation of Brokaw and Mennonite hospitals, according to a BroMenn study. The study includes Eureka Hospital, since Eureka is part of the Mennonite Hospital organization.
