SECOR - Mary Alyce "Stumpy" Dunmire, 84, McFadden, Wyo., died Thursday (April 17, 2008) at her home.

She was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Secor, the daughter of Dorsey and Minnie Blagg Hibbs.

She graduated from El Paso High School in 1941 and graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Bloomington in 1944. She practiced nursing in the hospital and home health until 1950.

She married Bill Dunmire on Oct. 7, 1945. They had two children; Leslie Linn and Lucinda Lee. They farmed and fed cattle in Central Illinois from 1945 to 1973. They then moved to a cattle ranch in Sioux County, Neb., where they raised Angus cattle from 1973 to 1978. From there they went to Iron Mountain, Wyo., where they expanded their cattle operations. They continued to ranch there until 1987 when they moved their cattle operation to McFadden, Wyo., where their family continues to ranch.

She was a member of the Albany County Cowbelles and the Rock Creek Country Club. She sat on the Carbon County election board. She was a fabulous cook and loved ranching with her family. She enjoyed going to bull sales and the Denver Stock Show. She also enjoyed her yearly fishing trips to Canada which spanned from 1946 to 2006. Stumpy was an avid sports fan and seldom missed a Rock River School or University of Wyoming athletic event. She was considered to be outspoken and caring; one never had to wonder what she was thinking!

Mary Alyce was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bill, of 50 years.

She is survived by her children, Les (Shelly) Dunmire, McFadden, Wyo., and her daughter, Cindy (Warren) Wilson, Belle Fourche, S.D.; and four grandchildren, Heather (Ryon) Alexander, Garrett Dunmire, Matt (Shannon) Wilson and Greg Wilson. She also has two great-grandchildren; Mikayla Linn Alexander and Dominic Lee Wilson.

A community celebration of Stumpy's life will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the McFadden Fire Hall with carry-in finger foods. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Laramie, 1262 N. 22nd St., Unit A, Laramie, WY 82072.

A graveside service will be at the Secor Cemetery in June.
