SAYBROOK - Lloyd E. "Gene" Maxwell, 77, Saybrook, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2007) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook, with Pastor Stacy Landry officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook, with military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Maxwell was born Sept. 5, 1930, at Clinton, a son of Carl and Nellie Stone Maxwell. He married Darlene J. Thorndyke on Feb. 15, 1958, in Clinton.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene J. Maxwell, Saybrook; two daughters, Terri Lynn (William) Carr, Eureka, and Barbara Diane (Kurt) Heyungs, Arrowsmith; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert (Patricia) Maxwell, Port Charlotte, Fla.; John (Iris) Maxwell, Clinton; Roger Maxwell, Conway, Ark.; and Joseph (Betty) Maxwell, Vilonia, Ark.; two sisters, Louise (Cletus) Nichols and Margaret Burger, both of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Levi Heyungs; and one brother, Lester Maxwell.
Mr. Maxwell was a truck driver for Brubaker Transfer Co., Eureka, for 25 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the First Christian Church, Clinton.
