PONTIAC - Robert W. Jones, 83, Pontiac, died at 10:35 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 11, 2007) in the Emergency Room of OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pontiac, with Monsignor Thomas E. Mack officiating.-;Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Pontiac.
Visitation for Robert Jones will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Martin-Burke Funeral Home, 413 N. Main St., Pontiac.-;A rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.-;The family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shriners' Children's Hospital or the Red Fez Shrine Club of Pontiac.
Bob was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Coal Creek Township, Montgomery County, Ind., a son of the late D. Lance and Atha Irene Davis Jones.-;He was educated in Pontiac schools and had attended college.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the South Pacific.
On Dec. 29, 1945, he married Loraine D. Rutowski in Milwaukee, Wis.-;She preceded him in death April 22, 1961.-;Later, he married Jean A. Masching in Odell on Feb. 19, 1966.-;She survives.
Also surviving are his two daughters, Patricia L. Jones, Hoffman Estates, and Nancy C. Jones, Tucson, Ariz.; two grandsons, C. William Wiggins, Baraga, Mich., and Bryan Wiggins, Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Walter L. Jones, Torrance, Calif.; John P. Jones, San Antonio, Texas; Leslie L. Jones, Mission, Texas; and Keith Jones, Pontiac; five sisters, Delores Cleveland, Vancouver, Wash.; Joan Schaumburg, Phyllis Harms and Karen R. Houchin, all of Chenoa; and-;Sandra Koerner, Cullom; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Kenneth and Charles Jones, and two sisters, Caroline Jones and Laura Weinberg.
Bob had served for 40 years as a police officer in state, city and county agencies and served from 1978 until 1986 as sheriff of Livingston County.
From 1986 to 2006, he served as a member of the Livingston County Board.-; He was a longtime Republican precinct committeeman in Pontiac.
Bob was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pontiac; a 63-year member and life member of the Aarvig-Campbell American Legion Post, Pontiac; life member of Voiture 818, 40/8; a life member of AMVETS; life member VFW Post 886, Pontiac; Knights of Columbus Council 854, Pontiac; AF&AM Masonic Lodge 294, Pontiac; the Consistory at Bloomington; Mohammed Temple, Peoria; the York Rites, Pontiac; the Red Fez Shrine Club, Pontiac; PROUD; The Elks Lodge, Pontiac; the Illinois Police Association and the Illinois Sheriffs' Association; Fraternal Order of the Police; Retired and Disabled Police of America; and a former member of the Pontiac Kiwanis Club.
He was a board member and instructor for the American Red Cross from 1948 until 2006.
