FLANAGAN - Margery Eileen Stalter, 82, Flanagan, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (July 8, 2009) at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Flanagan, where she had resided for the past several weeks.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Prairieview Mennonite Church, rural Gridley, with Pastor Doug King officiating. Inurnment will follow in Waldo Cemetery, rural Gridley. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to a food pantry of the donor's choice. Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan, is in charge of arrangements.

Margery was born May 25, 1927, at Graymont, the daughter of John and Sarah Egle Rocke. On Dec. 29, 1945, she was united in marriage to Raymond Fritz Stalter. He survives in Flanagan.

Other survivors include her children, Larry (Marcia) Stalter, Cullom; Sandra (Glenn) Schertz, Blue Mound; Randy (Sandy) Stalter, Flanagan; and Rebecca (Robert) Martellaro, Milwaukee, Wis.; a brother, Melvin (Glenna) Rocke, and a sister, Marcella Stalter, both of Flanagan; grandchildren, Geoffrey Schertz, Seattle, Wash.; Alison Schertz, Springfield; Katie Stalter, Washington, D.C.; John (Katie) Stalter, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Tracy Stalter, Bloomington; and Jill Stalter, Flanagan; stepgrandchildren, Melissa (Will) Osborn, Saunemin, and Jeff (Brenda) Read, Naperville; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Bailee and Bryce Osborn, and Ella Read.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Alice Eigsti Rocke; and two brothers, Donald Rocke and Dale Rocke.

She attended Prospect Grade School, southwest of Graymont, and graduated from Flanagan High School in 1945. Prior to her marriage, she worked at State Bank of Graymont before farming with her husband south of Flanagan until they moved to Flanagan in 1982.

She was a faithful member of Prairieview Mennonite Church, where she attended services regularly until her recent illness. She helped with many activities and was always willing to help in her own quiet way. For many years she was a volunteer at the Spare and Share Shop in Gridley.

Margery was a devoted wife and mother and always put the welfare of her husband and children above all else. She spoke ill of no one and no one spoke ill of her. "If you can't say something good about someone, don't say anything at all." She was well liked by all who knew her and will be missed by her family and friends.
