CARLOCK - Dennis Ralph Schreck, 59, of Carlock, found eternal peace at 4:15 p.m. Thursday (July 2, 2009) following a nearly two-year battle with cancer. Stillness came to him at his home in Carlock while surrounded by his family.
His visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, El Paso. His funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of El Paso with the Rev. Dr. Tim Smith officiating. Following his wishes, cremation rights will be accorded and burial will be at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made in Dennis' honor to the Hammitt School of The Baby Fold or the Autism Society of McLean County. Dennis was born May 8, 1950, to Orva J. and Louise E. North Schreck, in Normal, and was raised in El Paso. He married Pamela S. Price on Dec. 27, 1971, at First Baptist Church of El Paso.
Survivors include his wife, Pam; four children, Tony (Catherine), Normal; Jerry (Melissa), Normal; Chrystal (Heather), Berkeley, Calif.; Ben (Alora), Boulder, Colo.; two grandchildren, Avery and Rowan; his mother, Louise, El Paso; two brothers, Richard (Janice), University Park, Md., and Charles (Kathy), Mount Prospect; an aunt, Lela North, El Paso; and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Orva.
Dennis lived a life beyond the confines of convention. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, teacher and friend. His passion for connecting individuals and fostering universal wellness was expressed through his work as a community leader, poet, artist, singer, mentor, generous volunteer, builder and farmer.
Dennis was a shining force, a person who chose to live deliberately and help those around him realize their potential.
