BLOOMINGTON - Jay "Randy" R. Kagel, 60, Bloomington, passed away at 6:06 a.m. Tuesday (July 7, 2009) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
He was born June 14, 1949, in Normal, son of Melvin Raymond and Norma Jean Gaisford Kagel. His parents have preceded him in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Stacy Paul, Bloomington; two sons, Travis Kagel, Mackinaw, and Matthew Kagel, Bloomington; and three grandchildren, Darcy and Jeremy Paul and Savanna Kagel.
Also surviving are two brothers, James (Valerie) Kagel, Woodland Hill, Calif., and David (Nancy) Kagel, Bloomington; one sister, Barbara Kagel, Bloomington; and three nephews.
He was a 1967 graduate of Bloomington High School and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He worked as a journeyman meat cutter for Kroger grocery stores for 31 years in the Peoria and Bloomington-Normal area, last working at Kroger in Normal. He also worked parttime at the Bloomington Pantagraph as an inserter.
Randy enjoyed golfing, was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and adored spending his time with his grandchildren.
