NORMAL - Cecile B. Denney, 87, Normal, formerly of LeRoy, passed away Tuesday (June 30, 2009) at Manor Care in Normal.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Bloomington, with Pastor Elyse Nelson Winger officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to research for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Cecile was born Oct. 27, 1921, at Manito, daughter of George and Grace Hunteman Brent. She married Lyle Denney in 1939 at St. Louis, Mo. He passed away Dec. 31, 1984.

She is survived by one sister, Joyce (Gary) King, Broken Arrow, Okla.; one brother, Earl (Bernie) Brent, Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Cynthia Cripe, Tammy Carlson, Becky (Rob) Guynn, Bobby (Lori) Carlson and Bridgette (Ben) Wells; 11 great-grandchildren, Michael, Sarah, Justin, Tyler, Casey, Courtney, Caitlin, Cody, Nate, Alexis and Caleb; and two sons-in-law, Robert Carlson and Charles Baue.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Jeanne Carlson and Beverly Baue; and two brothers, Donald and Glenn Brent.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She retired from State Farm Insurance Cos., Eastland Mall and as a teacher's aide with Unit 5. She attended Illinois State University. Cecile was also an author of several books and poems, including a book of her life's story. She also volunteered many hours at RSVP. She was a member of the May Queen 210 Rebecca Lodge in LeRoy for over 65 years, during which time she served in many offices in both District 16 and May Queen 210.
