BLOOMINGTON - Vera L. Ely, 91, Bloomington, formerly of Dwight, died at 11:35 a.m. Monday (Oct, 6, 2008) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Dwight.

Mrs. Ely was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Odell, daughter of Charles M. and Grace Lee Groves Lewis. She married Earl H. Ely on March 29, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1997.

She is survived by one daughter, Joan Haake, Wachula, Fla.; two sons, Ronald E. (Carolyn J.) Ely, Humble, Texas, and John G. (Mary Sue) Ely, Coal City; five sisters, Inez Clausen, Pontiac; Alberta (John) Flint, Pontiac; Imogene Highland, Cornell; Fern (Melvin) Mattox, Ottumwa, Iowa; and Gladys (Gus) Limkemann, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Earl; and one daughter, Jeanette Greene; two brothers; four sisters; and two grandsons.

Vera loved children.
