McLEAN — Charles L. Yates, 79, McLean, passed away at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday (April 6, 2010) at his home.

The funeral for Mr. Yates will be at noon Saturday at Quiram Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with Chuck Brannock officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday. Burial will be in Roaches Chapel Cemetery, rural McLean.

Charles L. Yates was born May 11, 1930, in Camden, the son of Charles J. and Violet Logsdon Yates. He married Irma Parn on June 18, 1949. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Kenneth (Bobbie Sue) Yates, Atlanta; two daughters, Charlene (Capt. Larry) Cripps, Norfolk, Va., and Debra (Scott) Wilcox, McLean; one brother, Gerald (Dorothy) Yates, Timewell; one sister-in-law, Jan Yates, Quincy; six grandchildren, Angelea (Brian) Karr, Josh Baxter, Heather (Thomas) Miller, Theron Yates, Amanda (Ryan) Oehler and Pfc. Drew Wilcox; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Harlan Yates.

Mr. Yates was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for more than 60 years.

He owned C.L. Yates Excavating and farmed in rural Atlanta.

Memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
