Donald Earl Hiner, 92, of Gibson City, died at 11:35 p.m. Sunday (April 15, 2018) at OSF HealthCare Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday with funeral following at 11 a.m. at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City. Burial with military honors will be at Drummer Township Cemetery, Gibson City.
He was born March 23, 1926, in Bloomington, a son of Earl and Edna Baird Hiner. He married Wilma Leonard on March 3, 1965, in Champaign. She preceded him in death March 30, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Daniel (Nancy) Hiner, Champaign; daughter, Elizabeth (Larry) Hiner, Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepdaughter, Barb (Perry) Comer, Gibson City; stepson, Edward Farris; six grandchildren, Ryan, Ross, Brittany and Matthew Hiner; Beth (Jason) Corso; and Kelli (Shae) Blake; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan Blake, Conner Kinzinger, Lucas and Olivia Corso.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Davis.
Don was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and a truck driver for the University of Illinois, and a member of the Teamsters Union in Champaign. He was also a member of the Lee Lowery American Legion Post 568 where memorials can be made to their color guard unit.
