NORMAL — Ernest S. “Ernie” Neuber Jr., 80, of Normal, passed away at 5:12 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 31, 2013) at his residence.

His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. The Rev. Mike Claver will officiate. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, Normal, The Baby Fold, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Advocate BroMenn Hospice.

Ernie was born Feb. 3, 1933, in Springfield, the son of Ernest S. and Lauretta Tankersley Neuber Sr. He married Shirley R. Jones on Dec. 20, 1953, in Springfield. She passed away Sept. 13, 2010.

Surviving are three sons, Mark (Sue) Neuber, Bedford, Texas; Tom (Pat) Neuber, Carol Stream; and Mike (Pam) Neuber, Normal; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Walth, Elise Neuber, Matt Neuber, Kristen (Brian) Iossi, Stefanie Neuber, Trevor Neuber, Eric Neuber and Kevin Neuber; one great-granddaughter, Amelia Walth; and two sisters, Nancy (Les) Cullers, Coralville, Iowa, and Kathy (Bill) Strode, Zepherhills, Fla.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Neuber.

Ernie worked for General Telephone Co. for 35 years in management for the engineering and construction department, retiring in 1989. Ernie was an Eagle Scout. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Ernie enjoyed woodworking, artistry and gardening. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Normal.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, OSF Hospital, Community Cancer Center and Advocate BroMenn Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Ernie.
