ODELL - George R. Thorne, 74, of Odell, died at noon at his home in Odell.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Duffy Funeral Home, Odell, with Pastor Pat Morton officiating. Burial will be at Odell Union Cemetery, Odell. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation APDA Midwest Chapter, 2050 Pfingsten Road Suite 127, Glenview, IL 60026 or a charity of the donors choice.

He was born on Aug. 31, 1933, in rural Odell, the son of John A. and Katherine Branz Thorne. He married Fayetta "Faye" McKinsey on Oct. 28, 1953, at the Odell Congregational Church, Odell. She survives in Odell.

Other survivors include one son, Gary (Ivy) Thorne, Newbury Park, Calif.; three daughters, Catherine (Glen) Mayer, Lisle; Linda (John) Shrewsbury, Pontiac; and Peggy (David) Kodat, New Lenox; brother, Jim (Ann) Thorne, Odell; sister-in-law, Phyllis Thorne, Odell; 10 grandchildren, Jorjann Mayer, Towson, Md.; Brandon Mayer, Lisle; Brenda (Mario) Rios, San Antonio, Texas; Brian Landstrom, Bloomington; Lori Landstrom, Coconut Creek, Fla.; Tricia Thorne, Pontiac; Tyler Shrewsbury, Pontiac; Trevor, Courtney, and Leah Kodat, New Lenox; five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Conner, Kaylie, Matthew and Steven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Arnold, Clarence, John, and Donald.

He was a member of the United Church of Odell.

He was a member of the Odell American Legion, Odell Lions Club, Odell Congregational Church Board.

He had been a farmer, school bus driver, Livingston FS Company, and cemetery caretaker in Odell for many years.

He attended Odell schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during Korean War.

George loved his family very much, he never meet a stranger, he made sure he kept up with the town happenings, and greatly enjoyed attending school basketball games.
