Phillip G. “Skip” Emery, 79, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at 9:15 p.m. Monday (Nov. 27, 2017) at his home surrounded by family.
Skip was born Sept. 8, 1938, in Bloomington, the son of Albert and Lucille Auth Emery. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Potter, on Nov. 3, 1956, in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Phillip Emery, Mackinaw, and Timothy Emery, Bloomington; a brother, Andrew (Kathy) Emery, Meridian, Idaho; a granddaughter, Stephanie Downen, River Forest; a great-grandson, Kaleb Downen; and a son-in-law, Steve Downen, Normal.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Anna Downen; a grandson, Benjamin Downen; and three siblings, Mary Schultz, Albert Emery and Connie Houk.
Skip was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Nussbaum Trucking in 1998 after 30 years of service, where he was known for his great work ethic. In retirement he loved his time with family, was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed the companionship of his two dogs.
Skip’s family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the “angels” of Advocate Hospice services for their compassionate support and care.
Honoring Skip’s wishes, a private celebration of life ceremony is planned. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
