BLOOMINGTON — James Lawrence Smith IV, 31, Bloomington, passed away at 5:12 a.m. Monday (April 25, 2011) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Center For Hope Ministries, 14940 Old Colonial Road, Bloomington, with Bishop Larry Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in James’ name. The family of James has entrusted Kibler-Smith Memorial Home in Bloomington with the care of their loved one.
James was born May, 16, 1979, in Chicago, the son of James L. and Burnadyne Ramsey Smith III.
He is survived by his parents, James L. Smith III and Burnadyne C. Smith, both of Bloomington; one brother, Kareem (Rajneeta) Smith, Los Angeles, Calif.; paternal grandparents, James (Doris) Smith Jr., Chicago; and maternal grandmother, Cora D. Ramsey, Chicago. Also surviving is one nephew, Jalen R. Smith, Vancouver, B.C.; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
James was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James F. Ramsey.
James graduated from Bloomington High School in 1997 and then attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
He gave his heart to the Lord at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in 1991 in Bloomington where he was baptized.
James was employed at AFNI Collection Services in Bloomington for the last six years as an account representative.
He was a music connoisseur and enjoyed listening to all types of music. James enjoyed sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed traveling to concerts and was a huge Phish follower. James was a free spirit and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
James was a loving son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend to all who knew him.
