Joanne Klokkenga, 85, of Lincoln, formerly of Emden, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday (March 6, 2018) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Her funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Emden. Pastor John Schurter will officiate. Burial will follow at Hartsburg Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, both at the church in Emden
Joanne Smith was born July 18, 1932, in Edmonton, Ky., the daughter of Fred and Edna Harper Smith. She married Harry Klokkenga on Nov. 29, 1953, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Emden. He survives.
Joanne is also survived by their daughters, Debra (Loren) LaMar, McLean, and Barb (Mark) Kirk, Washington; four grandchildren, Dawn LaMar, Loren LaMar Jr., Lindsay Kelley and Samantha (Aaron) Bell; six great-grandchildren, William, Aaden and Owen LaMar, and Ilaunna, Lilly and Camden Bell; three sisters, Marge Wilmert, Sue (Cheng) Teng and Nancy (Chris) Sprague; and one brother, Larry Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Nell Tabb; and one granddaughter, Danielle Kirk.
Joanne was a member St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Emden. She had worked as a telephone operator in Emden and in the kitchen at Hopedale Commons.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
