John Hayes, 62, of rural Emden, passed away Friday (Dec. 1, 2017) at St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln.
He was born Dec. 11, 1954, in Lincoln, to J. Thomas and Patricia Fahy Hayes.
He is survived by his mother; one brother, Mark (Star) Hayes, Lincoln; two sisters-in-law, Jan (Mark) Schleder, Green Valley, and Dawn Hayes, Glenview; his beloved niece, Theresa (Justin) Kegley, and their children, Riley, Cooper and Colton, Rockford; niece, Leanne (Daniel) Walton, and their children, Jack and Joah, Sugar Grove; and nephew, Caleb (Jordan) Schleder, Duluth, Ga.
John was blessed with a large and proud Irish Catholic family. He leaves behind many aunts, cousins and friends who are family.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Daniel and Christopher.
John was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Delavan where he served as lector. He was a devoted alumni of San Jose High School and served on the board.
As a lifelong sports enthusiast, John always found himself as a spectator for many local high school sports teams, the Bradley Braves and his favorite Chicago White Sox. John has never known a stranger and was known by many as an avid softball player, coach, manager and umpire.
John may have lost his fight with ALS, but he won the eternal victory of life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial Mass for John will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Delavan. Monsignor Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home, Delavan, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at St Mary’s Cemetery, Delavan.
