FAIRBURY — Margaret J. Claudon, 89, of Fairbury passed away at 1:25 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 27, 2010) at her residence in Fairbury surrounded by family.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fairbury, with Father Scott Archer officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, with a rosary to be recited at 3:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to St. John’s Catholic Church,Fairbury; or OSF St. James Hospice, Pontiac.

Mrs. Claudon was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Madelia, Minn., the daughter of Francis Edward and Margaret Isabelle Harrington Rathbun. She married Nelson “Jim” Claudon Jr. on Nov. 24, 1938, in Fairbury. He survives in Fairbury.

Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara (Leroy) Ward and Carol Bryant, both of Fairbury; and Mary Lynn (Wally) Ross, Lewiston, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Kathy (Greg) Popejoy, Fairbury; Mike (Robyn) Ward, O’Fallon; Melanie Ward and Eric Payne, both of Bloomington; Rob Hilligoss, Chicago; Nikol (Jason) Martin, Forrest; Jackie (David) Eisemann, Savoy; and Paula (Mark) Bachtold, Fairbury; 17 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Abby Popejoy, Fairbury; LiliAna, Ally, Avery and Michael Ward, all of O’Fallon; Austin Payne, Bloomington; Jayla Bryant and Jaxson and Jerzee Martin, all of Forrest; Sydney, Cortney and Mackenzie Eisemann, all of Savoy; and Brooke, Grant, Faith and Jake Bachtold, all of Fairbury; three sisters, Mary Ann (Bob) Wenger, Fairbury; Frances (Jack) Morris, Champaign; and Joanne Paul, San Diego; and two brothers, Jim (Mary) Rathbun, Fairbury; and Duane (Irene) Rathbun, Harrisburg.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia J. Claudon at the age of 3; one infant grandson, James Albert Ward; and one infant great-granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth Ward.

Mrs. Claudon was a 1938 graduate of Fairbury Township High School. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.

She worked with her husband for many years at Claudon Motor Mart, Fairbury. She also was an accomplished seamstress who provided three generations of family with unique creations.

The family has been blessed to be showered with her love. She will be truly missed.
