Marjorie Ellen Metcalf, 91, died on Saturday (Dec. 2, 2017) at the McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.
Marjorie was born May 5, 1926 in Indianola, the daughter of William Edward and Lucy Alberta Pollitt Reed. She married Robert Leo Metcalf on June 22, 1947, in Gary, Ind.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years; four daughters, Cynthia (Gary) Bryant, Bloomington, Donna (Joseph) Funk, Kalamazoo, Mich., Sara (David) Kinney, Edelstein, and Gayle (Frank) Johnson, Kissimmee, Fla.; six grandchildren, Mark (Laura) Bryant, Rebecca (Dennis) Joray, Robert (Angela) Kinney, Marjorie (Cory) Vowles, Andy Funk, and Joshua Kinney; four great-grandchildren, Briana (Tallon) Vincent, Collin Bryant, Lilly and Anna Vowles; and two great-great-grandchildren, Emmy and Leo Vincent.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister.
Marjorie graduated from Merrillville High School, Merrillville, Ind., in 1944. She returned to school at Illinois State University, receiving a teaching degree in 1965. She taught at Sheridan and Lincoln Schools and Bloomington Junior High School. She also spent a year in Shenyang, China teaching English.
Marge loved spending time with her family. She was an excellent cook and baker, enjoyed singing, reading and watching movies. She also liked flowers, birds, traveling, sewing and working both jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Her family will remember her for her witty jokes and ready laughter.
Marge was a member of East White Oak Bible Church for more than 50 years. She loved Jesus Christ and is now at rest, awaiting the return of her Lord and Savior and the final resurrection.
