Robert Clarence Zink, 86, of Normal, passed away at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday (March 5, 2018) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
He was born July 7, 1931, in Covell, the son of Wendell and Josephine Bointnot Zink. He married Erma Sutton in Bloomington. She preceded him in death Nov. 7, 2016.
Robert worked as a grain elevator operator at Funk’s G Hybrid for 55 years, retiring in 1994. He loved animals, especially his beloved dog, Susie. He was an avid supporter of the Humane Society of Central Illinois. Robert was a car and motorcycle enthusiast, especially enjoying his Honda Gold Wing, which he owned for many years. He loved traveling and being outdoors. He was known for taking care of his neighbors, even shoveling their driveways when needed.
Robert is survived by two sons, Michael (Doris) Zink and Timothy Zink, both of Normal; six grandchildren, Angela (Denny) Firkins, Hudson; Chris Sullivan, Texas; Kim (Mike) Gorski, Bloomington; Brandon Sullivan, Bloomington; Sheri (Ed) Zigler, South Carolina; and Bobbie Moore, Pekin; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Gibson, and a daughter, Barbara Moore.
According to Robert’s wishes, there will be no services. Private entombment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.
