A 21-year-old Kankakee man and a 53-year-old Paxton woman were killed over the weekend in unrelated vehicle accidents, authorities said Monday.
Michael L. Blakeney was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m. Sunday at the site of a two-vehicle accident on Illinois 17 near Reddick, Livingston County Coroner Michael Burke said in a news release issued Monday.
Burke said Blakeney was a passenger in a westbound vehicle and was thrown as a result of the crash. He landed in the west ditch.
Details of the crash have not yet been released. The accident is being investigated by Illinois State Police and the Livingston County coroner’s office.
In an unrelated accident, Toni M. Swan, 53, was killed in an accident about 7:20 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 45 at 100 North Road in Iroquois county, state police said Monday.
A pickup truck in which she was riding was northbound on U.S. 45 when it crossed the center line, drove through a ditch and struck a tree. Debris fell on the truck’s roof and windshield, killing Swan, state police said.
The driver of the vehicle, Dean A. Swan, 49, of Paxton was transported to Carle Hospital for treatment. Carle had no record of his as a patient as of Monday.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.
