BLOOMINGTON — A record number of McLean County women received nominations for YWCA McLean County Woman of Distinction awards.

YWCA announced Thursday that 48 women have been nominated in eight categories that highlight their contributions to their respective fields and to McLean County. The categories are Business; Creative Arts & Entertainment; Education; Professions; STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math); Social Services; Volunteer Service and Young Professional.

"There are a lot of amazing women in our community and I'm thrilled we'll be able to recognize so many," said Liz German, YWCA McLean County vice president of operations.

A panel of judges, including local community leaders and executive staff from other YWCAs, will review the nominations and select one winner in each category. Selection will be based on qualities of leadership, areas of achievement and commitment to improving McLean County through work or volunteer activities.

Women will be honored during the 28th annual Women of Distinction awards banquet at 5:30 p.m. May 16 at the Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in uptown Normal.
