BYRON - A northern Illinois nuclear power plant will remain shut down this week during repairs to a leaky water-cooling pipe that forced the plant off line.

Bob Kartheiser is communications director for the Byron Generating System. He says other pipes in the plant also will be inspected.

The leak was found during an inspection Friday, and the power plant was shut down that day.

Kartheiser wouldn't say how long the power plant would be down but said it could be an extended period.
