Congratulations to Central Catholic High School of Bloomington on winning the state football championship in Class 4A, ending the season with a perfect 14-0 record.

This was the Saints second consecutive trip to the Illinois High School Association's Class 4A title game. It was the eighth straight year at least one football team from the Pantagraph area has competed in an IHSA championship game. That's a fine streak that we hope to see continue in 2009.

Central Catholic also became the first school to win football championships in four different enrollment classes. The team also has success with the school books as well as the playbook. Six seniors received academic all-state honors from the IHSA Coaches Association and/or scored at least 30 points on the ACT college admissions test. A perfect score is 36.

We tip our hats to the Saints and head coach Bobby Moews.
