I am glad the wind farm opponents got their later hearing date. But, recognize it for what it is, a howl of grief and rage.
The death of the family farm began years ago. As it became unprofitable to continue, farms were sold to agribusinesses. Their primary goal is to make money.
No farmer can compete with their scale. They produce higher numbers of hogs on their polluting factory farms, then they develop a closed system for slaughter and marketing. Pollution? Who cares? Make money.
And speaking of slaughter, one of those big agribusinesses convinced a western Kansas town they were building them a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse. Tax breaks were forthcoming.
Not one native Kansan works in that plant. They brought in Mexican immigrant labor and they perform those horrible jobs for low pay.
So, have your meetings. Mourn what became of the farm families who built this country and then let us improve the air quality of Central Illinois for you, your descendants and the rest of us here in the heartland.
