I am writing to let you know my sincere disappointment in this state's lack of welfare for the disabled citizens of Illinois.
Due to the recent budget cuts that will be implemented on July 1, there are hundreds of people who will be displaced from their homes, jobs and independent living programs among others. It is a sad day when the government throws a disabled person out on the street and tells them to fend for themselves.
The reality of the situation is countless health care workers are being terminated by the budget cuts and there is nowhere for the disabled to turn to for help.
On July 1 the Bloomington Occupational Development Center for the disabled will close its doors if this is not stopped. This will leave a lot of people without jobs and/or necessary life skills to be productive members of society.
The Marc Center and The Center for Human Services of Bloomington also will have to make budget cuts, terminate employees, terminate job coaches for the disabled and cut clients due to budget restraints.
The irony of the situation is this will happen just days before this country celebrates its independence - yet so many people that rely on these programs for their independence will be losing it.
Please help stop the madness and find a different way to balance the budget.
